GDAL/OGR is a C++ geospatial data access library for raster and vector file formats, databases and web services. It includes bindings for several languages, and a variety of command line tools.

- GDAL allows this by defining in-memory raster files. These are normal GDAL datasets, but that don’t exist on the filesystem, only in the computer’s memory. They are a convenient “scratchpad” for quick intermediate calculations. GDAL also makes available a function, gdal.ReprojectImage that exposes most of the abilities of gdalwarp. We shall combine these two tricks to carry out the reprojection.

Rasterio has a C library dependency: GDAL >=1.11. GDAL itself depends on some other libraries provided by most major operating systems and also depends on the non standard GEOS and PROJ4 libraries. How to meet these requirement will be explained below. Rasterio’s Python dependencies are listed in its requirements.txt file.

Mar 08, 2012 · GDAL gives the possibility to create GDAL virtual formats: it is possible to create a GDAL dataset “composed from other GDAL datasets with repositioning, and algorithms potentially applied as well as various kinds of metadata altered or added. VRT descriptions of datasets can be saved in an XML format normally given the extension .vrt.”
- These days, it is quite common for people to use the rasterio, rasterstats, numpy, or geopandas Python packages in their Raster processing/analysis workflows. This post aims to illustrate how some of these packages might be used to perform zonal statistics: rasterio rasterstats geopandas fiona If ...

GDAL library functions are excuted in a context of format drivers, error handlers, and format-specific configuration options that this document will call the “GDAL Environment.” Rasterio has an abstraction for the GDAL environment, gdal does not. With gdal, this context is initialized upon import of the module.

Nov 28, 2020 · Since the Rasterio library is running in the container, linked to exact same GDAL, GEOS and PROJ libraries as PostGIS, we can be assured of a more consistent environment. Raster dataset For our raster dataset, we'll use the historic climate data provided by the WorldClim project.
- This Python package and extensions are a number of tools for programming and manipulating the GDAL Geospatial Data Abstraction Library. Actually, it is two libraries - GDAL for manipulating geospatial raster data and OGR for manipulating geospatial vector data - but we'll refer to the entire package as the GDAL library for the purposes of this document.
Geoprocessing with Python using Open Source GIS. This material is really old and some of it is outdated (not all, though!). One of these days I might get around to putting newer class materials online, but you're stuck with this for now.
